Happy late 4th of July friends! Today, in the spirit of family, fun and summer, I want to share this exciting family session with you all.
Ellen, Joel & Oliver contacted me in the Spring and I have truly enjoyed getting to know this sweet family over the last few months. I really try to bring out the fun and creative side of everyone I work with, so when Ellen mentioned in one of our first emails that one of their favorite things to do together was share a summery ice cream cone, I jumped on the idea and ran with it. Also promoting this family’s love of organics and sustainability we created a homemade ice cream flavor for each family member: a backyard mint for Oliver (since his favorite place in the backyard), a mellow roasted strawberry and buttermilk ice cream for Joel (since he’s a pretty laid back guy), and a roasted pistachio for Ellen, because in her own words she loves, ‘things a bit off the beaten path that have character.’ (My kind of woman. J )
I was in 7th heaven working on this story-board and seeing it all come together from the ice cream to the garlands and all the fun colorful elements Ellen and I collected and worked on. Even though the day we photographed we had to have a last minute location change because of the Waldo Canyon fire, the ice cream was melting quickly and Oliver was feeling a bit sick, everyone wanted to push though and I’m so glad we did. The results were colorful and joyful, just how I like them. So grab an ice cream cone and ENJOY!
PS – A HUGE thank you to my Grandparents who not only gave as a gift the ice cream maker I used to make all the ice creams pictured here, but also spent time finding and cleaning their antique ice cream maker for me to borrow as a prop. I owe them big time!
